07 Feb 2008 Up, Up, Up!
 |  Category: Family, General, Madeline |  Leave a Comment

Madeline, the lovely younger of our pair, was up at 1:30 in the morning for a bottle, then again at 2:00 throwing up. We were up with her, bathed her, re-fed her (in case it was a temporary thing), and put her back to sleep. She slept for another 1.5 hours, then it was up, up, great day for throwing up (see here), again. So, we bathed her, and took her downstairs, where we played while Mommy did a Wal-Mart run.

So…I am operating on total sleep from 11 - 1:30. It does wonders for the concentration…

I’ll never read that book to her again…

08 Dec 2007 The Guy with ADHD who Asks a Question
 |  Category: General, Jonathan - General, fun |  One Comment

Most people know other people like the title person (or, if you read this blog regularly, and know me, then you know that I am the title person), who asks incomprehensible questions.

For instance, I was at a law / philosophy / theology conference last Saturday, and I had a question for the presenter (who had just presented a paper on natural law, but never mind that), which I raised my hand and asked during the Q&A session at the end.

The question went something like this:

I suppose this is a question which any one or all three of you could answer. It seems to me that the individuals in question, Maritain, John Ryan, or (whomever the third guy was), but especially Maritain, seem to make a leap from the interior forum to the external forum with relative ease, but never seem to justify that move. That is to say, we are commanded as Christians to go and convert the nations, summarily said, and these individuals seem to make philosophical arguments without reference to that point. Does my question make sense? [Though, I doubt at the time the question was even that coherent.]

At which point there is a silence as the presenters (all of whom are very competent, learned, and intelligent types) try and figure out: (1) What exactly was it that I asked; (2) Did it make any sense?; and (3) What?

Now, to me as an ADHD person, that question(s) made perfect sense, inside my head, and all the responder had really to do was be inside and know what I meant. The answer was, of course, inadequate, but I knew better than to ask another 30-second rambling question of inordinate length and unfortunate verbiage.

Now, since we ADHD types will not stop asking questions, will the rest of you please develop psychic abilities so we can get some reasonable responses?

Thank you.

A tasty recipe which I developed from several chicken kebab recipes I found online. Serve it with grilled onions and tomatoes over rice or flatbread!

The Ingredients

  • 2 whole chicken breasts
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (or 1 lemon, 1 lime)
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1/2 bunch cilantro

The Method

  1. Mix all ingredients in a steel or glass bowl except the chicken. Let sit 15 - 30 minutes.
  2. Cube the chicken and marinate in the mixture for four hours or better.
  3. Skewer the chicken and place on the grill or under the broiler in the oven.
  4. Cook the chicken until white through or whatever temperature the cookbook recommends; turn it once or twice to cook evenly.
